Annual Pratishta Day Celebrations:
Importance : In popular Temples visited by hundreds of devotees daily, it is possible that some of the elaborate Tantric Vidhis (rules of worship) are not always strictly observed. It is also equally possible in a busy city like ours that the visitors have not observed all the rules of cleanliness as in the scriptures. These deficiencies, over a period of time, reduce the capacity of the IDOLS OF THE LORD to fully transmit His power inherent in them.
As a solution Tantra Sastra has ordained that after every year there should be a Naveekaranam (restoration) and Punar - Pratishta (re-establishment) of the Gods so that Lord's Chaitanyam is full avilable to the devotees. These rituals are essentially energy Prayaschita Karmas (atonement actions) seeking Lord's mercy for the past unintended deficiencies.
As described by our Lord Guruvayurappan, it is decided to undertake this great responsibility of Punarpratishta Naveekaranam of the idols of the Dieties in our Temple Complex under the guidance of Chief Tantri Sri Sathisan Namboodiripad assisted by 8 qualified Tantris who have been specially invited from Kerala to ensure that our traditions are not compromised. The Tantrics have estimated that this great and solemn function spread over 5 days, will involve Participation, Prayers and Utsavam Celebrations.
Every year from 3rd July to 7th July Annual Pratishta Day Celebrations took place.
This is an opportunity for us, the sincere and worthy devotees of Lord Guruvayurappan, to demonstrate to Him our Sincere devotion and atachment by participating in these celebrations in large number and contributing liberally to this great cause.
